WOOD STOVE (CYLINDER PARLOR STOVE)

We found this antique beauty at the JT Trading Post. It came in pretty bad shape, but now it's just plain old "pretty"!

The metal gets VERY HOT and will BURN to the touch. Please be very careful with children.

STARTING A FIRE

The key to starting a fire is to start with the small stuff! Always use gloves to avoid splinters, critters and burns.

1. Place 6 balled newspaper pages (non color/glossy) in the main fire box chamber, which is accessed with the two swing doors.

2. Place apx 8-12 pieces of kindling (small pieces of wood, bark or twigs) on top the papers as best you can.

3. Place your smallest log on top of the kindling/paper.

4. Light the paper, leaving the door 1/4 open. Close the firebox door when all of the newspaper is burning.

5. After the small starter log burns 15 minutes, add one or two more logs as necessary. Hot air is thinner and lighter than cold air, so If you try to start a big fire right away, the smoke will not

have sufficient heat to push up the cold air in the exhaust pipe, and dangerous smoke will spread into the room instead.

The stove should cut the chill in about 30 minutes with a few logs burning. You can increase the effect by burning more logs, and aiming a fan (on low) at the rear of the stove to circulate the warm air through the room.

The MAIN DAMPER controls air intake. The more open, the hotter the fire burns, but the faster the wood burns.

The LOWER DAMPER also allows air to be circulated into the firebox. It should be open about 1/4”.

ASH TRAY

One night worth of burning will usually fill the tray. Please empty it each day into the large metal “ASHES” tub just west of the cabin.
